Whether you enjoy Irish stories, light-hearted entertainment or real-life documentaries, this guide explains how to explore RTE Player, find programmes that match your interests and make the most of its streaming options.
What Is RTE Player?
RTE Player is RTÉ’s online streaming service. It offers selected live television and on-demand programmes, including drama, entertainment, factual programming and other content.
Viewers can browse the available catalogue, search for specific programmes and watch episodes when they are available. Some content may be restricted by location or broadcasting rights, so availability can vary depending on the programme and where you are watching.
You can visit the official website here: https://www.rte.ie/player/
The platform provides an online option for viewers who want to explore RTÉ programmes without relying solely on traditional television schedules.
1. Explore Irish Drama Series
Irish dramas appeal to viewers who enjoy interesting characters, suspense and stories connected to everyday life. Depending on the current catalogue, RTE Player may feature crime dramas, family series and contemporary Irish productions.
These programmes can introduce audiences to Irish locations, communities and social issues while providing engaging entertainment. Drama series can also offer different perspectives on relationships, work, family life and the challenges people face.
If you discover a series you enjoy, check whether previous episodes are available. Watching episodes in order can help you follow the storyline, understand the characters and enjoy the development of the plot.
Because programme availability changes, check the current listings before planning a full series to watch.
2. Find Comedy and Entertainment Shows
Comedy and entertainment programmes are ideal when you want something relaxing after a busy day. RTE Player may offer comedy series, panel shows, competitions, chat programmes and special broadcasts, depending on its current catalogue.
Some programmes focus on Irish humour and culture, while others feature wider entertainment topics. These shows can be suitable for viewers looking for light-hearted content or something to watch with family and friends.
Check the catalogue for new episodes and seasonal specials. An older programme may not always remain available online, so review the individual listing before searching for a particular episode.
3. Watch Reality and Competition Shows
Reality television offers challenges, unexpected moments and conversations that viewers can share with friends and family. Competition formats can also create suspense as participants work towards a goal or progress through different stages.
Depending on the available schedule, RTE Player may feature selected reality programmes and competition shows.
If you follow a particular series, check whether the latest episode is available and whether earlier episodes remain accessible. Reading the programme description before watching can help you decide whether the format matches your interests.
The selection may change over time, so browsing the latest entertainment listings is a practical way to find something new.
4. Discover Celebrity Interviews
Celebrity interviews give viewers an opportunity to learn more about actors, musicians, presenters, comedians and other public figures.
Irish entertainment programmes may include conversations about careers, new projects, music, television and culture. These interviews can be interesting for people who follow Irish celebrities or want to discover new personalities.
To find relevant content, search the available catalogue using a celebrity’s name or a programme title. Check the episode date and description to make sure you have found the interview you want.
Interviews can also provide background on creative projects and the people involved in Ireland’s entertainment industry.
5. Enjoy Documentaries and Factual Programmes
If you prefer real-life stories, documentaries offer an alternative to drama and reality television. Depending on the current selection, RTE Player may include programmes about Irish history, society, culture, nature and personal experiences.
Documentaries can help viewers learn more about Ireland, explore important events and understand subjects beyond everyday entertainment. They may also introduce audiences to people, places and experiences they have not encountered before.
Read the programme description to understand the subject and choose a documentary that matches your interests. Since the catalogue changes, check the latest listings for newly available factual programmes.
